Day 1: Dreary

AC/DC, one of the few institutions the rising generation of authoritarians dare not challenge, returns with a new single, Shot in the Dark. They sound exactly like themselves, which is the highest compliment I can give.

Daughter’s first day of school. Her: happy, tentative, excited; me, teary-eyed, humming Cats in the cradle absentmindedly, wife muttering “shut the f*ck up” under her breath.

I watched Jay & Silent Bob: Reboot the other day. By way of review, well … it’s an objectively bad movie that I subjectively loved. Make of that what you will.

Trying to find a secure email client is easier said than done these days. Most of the new services seem to require you go through their servers, I assume to mine data. And so, Thunderbird remains my weapon of choice.

Finally saw Miller’s Crossing last night. What a movie! I also learned it was based on a Dashiell Hammett book – the same that inspired Kurosawa‘s Yojimbo, which incidentally means that Last Man Standing is, in fact, the second prohibition-era movie based on the same material.

My brief, yet considered review of Frozen II: I enjoyed it.

Each Christmas I’m reminded how lousy I am at gift wrapping, despite having worked in retail in my younger days. Embarrassed and infuriating, though I suppose the customers had bigger reason to complain.
